WALKING WILD
BEN LEDI
I walked up Ben Ledi 5 times in the Autumn of 2025. This series is a record of my experience. Capturing the mountain as I found it each day. 5 walks, 2 months, 20 drawings
13.10.25 / 15°/ 10 kph - Low Cloud cover
Walking in Scotland is not a neutral act. The right to roam, wasn’t always ours, it was a hard-won battle in a landscape which was systematically eroded, degraded and privatised.
18.10.25 / 8°/ 30 kph - Sunny spells
Now to walk freely through the mountains and moorlands of Scotland is a quiet declaration of belonging. We live in a world where we have been othered to nature, as such we often speak as if nature is a place visit or escape to.
25.10.25 / 5°/ 65 kph - Rain
But this separation is cultural and not real, to walk this mountain is to inhabit it, embody it as part of our selves, and in doing so knowing ourselves.
01.11.25 / -2°/ 80 kph - windy
Nature reflects ourselves. The changing seasons. The harsh terrains we must confront to move forward physically, emotionally, spiritually. It is in the most brutal of nature that we see the power of humanity nature. Whichever path you choose to take through the wild mountains of Ben Ledi, it will lead you, always, to a deeper part of yourself.
